CAB Goes Retro for Springfest
Alexes Spencer
Anyone with a pair of eyes and a class that requires them to walk past Science and Research Plaza on Wednesdays is well aware of the spectacle known as CABstock that happened last week.
As the long line for hamburgers stretched around the corner of the plaza toward main classroom, it was evident that many people attended for the free food and drinks, but free food was not the main purpose of the event.
"It was a good time to spend time with friends and the live music was a nice touch," sophomore Doug Bittner said.
Wednesday's event was a smorgasbord of events and activities intent on providing Cleveland State students with some good 'ol fashioned entertainment. While students sat on the lawn eating their food and enjoying the warm(er) weather, artists and bands performed, such as Cleveland State "Lurkers", Division of Heroes, Adam Burr, and The Cauldron's own, Jonathan 'Killstring' Herzberger.
"CABstock was really nice. I liked listening to all of the singers and musicians that go to Cleveland State," sophomore Jenna Miller said.
In addition to live music, students could partake in a plethora of other fun activities ranging from guitar hero to creating and coloring molds of their hands in wax. The student environmentalists group set up their own Earth Day display around the corner from Science and Research plaza featuring easy ways to live greener and help the environment, and the Cleveland State Recreation Center had a booth set up to let students know about upcoming events at the rec.
"It was very entertaining!" freshman Shawna Stegall said.
In true CSU fashion, CABstock allowed students to pick up an array of free goodies, including knit hacky sacks, guitar-shaped bubble necklaces, peace-sign sunglasses, and a CABstock shirt designed by Eric Ortiz, the winner of the CABstock design contest.
"CABstock was an awesome opportunity for me to make some quick cash while getting involved on campus. The CAB members put so much work into the event and overall, it was a great day for students to get out and enjoy some local music and free food before finals," freshman and CABstock worker Dan Ottinger said.
While CABstock was a fun activity for students in the 2009 semester, the Campus Activities Board actually throws the event annually. It is known as Springfest, with CABstock as the '09 theme, and students who missed this year's entertainment merely have to wait for next year to get another shot at free food and school-sanctioned fun.

Free food and drinks is always a good time, especially when it's in the form of annual school sponsored festivities. Lots of people come every year.
